Position Overview
The Vegetable Production Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for planning, overseeing, and executing all aspects of vegetable, herb, limited cut flower and fruit production on our diversified farm. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of regenerative agriculture, strong organizational skills, and a passion for sustainable food systems.
Key Responsibilities
Crop Planning & Management
- Develop and execute seasonal crop plans using organic & regenerative methods.
- Facilitate seeding, transplanting, cultivation, irrigation, pest management, maintenance and harvesting schedules for vegetables, herbs, fruit (small orchard and berries) and flowers.
- Maintain crop records and fertility inputs.
- Cultivate and develop new growing spaces
- Oversight of invasive plant management in agricultural settings
- Dry/cure herbs and crops like garlic, potatoes, squash
Soil Health & Regeneration
- Implement soil-building strategies such as cover cropping, composting, and reduced tillage.
- Monitor and assess soil health and make data-driven decisions for long-term productivity.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and train seasonal farm crew in all aspects of vegetable production.
- Coordinate and facilitate a 50 person CSA program with the Farm Production Steward
- Promote a safe, inclusive and efficient working environment.
Infrastructure & Equipment
- Maintain greenhouse, irrigation systems, tools, and equipment related to vegetable and fruit production.
- Operation of skidsteer, tractor, pickup truck and Coolbot trailer
- Identify and address infrastructure needs in collaboration with farm leadership.
Market Readiness
- Coordinate harvests to meet farm store, CSA, and farmers market needs.
- Work with the farm team to ensure timely and high-quality produce provided for customers.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in regenerative produce production.
- Proven leadership experience managing farm crews or production teams.
- Strong knowledge of and a passion for regenerative farming techniques.
- Experience with CSA, farmers markets, or wholesale production
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort with farm equipment are desirable.
- Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to assist in occasional weekend livestock care if needed
- Willingness to assist in land stewardship activities during the Winter season to fill a 40 hour work week if needed
- Experience with crop planning software (e.g., Tend, AgSquared) is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience ($55,000-$75,000.00)
- Paid time off includes Holidays, accrued 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of Sick time
