Maintenance Person

We’re looking for a reliable, skilled and hands-on Handyman / Maintenance Operative to join our team at Teen Support Services to help us maintain high standards across our supported accommodation properties. You’ll be an essential part of our team, ensuring homes are safe, functional, and welcoming while working respectfully within environments where discretion, and safeguarding awareness are vital.

This role is vital to ensuring our environment remains a safe, comfortable and well-maintained space for our staff, visitors, and young people we support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day reactive maintenance and repair tasks across multiple supported accommodation properties
  • Respond promptly to reported maintenance issues and emergencies
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, joinery, tiling, decorating, and general repairs
  • Install and repair fixtures and fittings (e.g. shelves, blinds, handles, tiles, cabinets, flooring)
  • Conduct patch painting, minor plastering, and decorating (walls, ceilings, skirting boards, door frames)
  • Install or repair sinks, taps, toilets, alarms, doorbells, sockets, light fittings, and thermostats
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, including checks on fire doors, smoke alarms, extractor fans
  • Identify and report health any safety risks, hazards, or defects to the Line Manager
  • Support the refurbishment and turnaround of void properties (repairs, cleaning, painting, safety checks)
  • Maintain gardens and outdoor areas: mowing lawns, trimming hedges, weeding, watering, minor fencing and carpentry
  • Assist with window fitting and repairs, including replacing frames and broken glass
  • Perform basic roofing maintenance such as clearing gutters and identifying leaks
  • Safely use and store tools, equipment, and chemicals in line with COSHH regulations
  • Maintain accurate records/documentation of completed work and safety checks
  • Liaise with Line Manager and colleagues to prioritise and schedule maintenance tasks
  • Follow all organisational policies, procedures, and safeguarding guidelines
  • Be respectful of residents’ privacy, dignity, and support needs during all works
  • Provide occasional out-of-hours or emergency support as required

Person Specification (Skills & Experience)

  • Previous experience in a general maintenance or facilities support role
  • Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and tiling tasks
  • Skilled in using various tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively
  • Good knowledge of property health and safety, safeguarding, and building compliance
  • Physically fit – capable of lifting, carrying, and working in varied positions
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Good communication and professionalism when working in residents' homes
  • Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and manage tasks across multiple sites
  • Experience with record-keeping and reporting maintenance activity
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
